What is Bible time?
Bible time is any time spent reading, studying, and memorizing God’s word. Why is it so important?

God’s word inspires our faith!
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
Through God’s word, we are given the means to know God, to know what sin is and how to correct/repent of it, and to know how to pursue an ongoing sanctified life.
” All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
God’s word gives us confidence that God Himself is directing our path through life.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
Psalms 119:105
As a believer in Christ, Bible study is the most important investment of your time. Spending time with God so that His word fills you and then pours out of you into every aspect of your life.
And yet knowing all this, as a busy mom I really struggle to make that time. For those that get up before the kids, hats off to you. I am still trying to make that a habit. The day starts, and the hustle and bustle carries me along until I collapse into bed at night and have once again not spent that vital time with God. Not only do I NEED to prioritize personal devotions but also daily family Bible time.
When I call the kids around and want to start Bible time but have not planned for it, the kids notice. I fumble through the Scriptures trying to find a passage to exegete. I lose their attention almost instantly and dejectedly wrap it up with a sigh. I know that I didn’t do my best to instill the importance of Scripture study in my kids. Nor has their knowledge of God and His word increased.
Then homeschool. Bible can become just another subject that needs to get checked off the planner. It feels tedious and dull when in fact of all the subjects taught this one should create the most awe and excitement. God’s word is living and powerful!
God and who He is and Christ and His saving grace are THE greatest gift you can ever teach your children.
Here’s the challenge, making time for personal devotions, then family Bible time, and also completing Bible as homeschool subject.
The solution that has worked incredibly well for me.
Pick a Bible resource to study as a family that will also check the boxes needed to make it count as a homeschool subject. A resource that as I prepare to teach it also satisfies my own need for personal time with God.

I gave it a try with BJU Bible Truths 1. I love and truthfully chose this curriculum specifically for its catechism approach. Here we are learning the Bible Truth – “Can you see God? No, I cannot see God, but He always sees me.”
Before teaching the lesson to my kids, I study the Bible passage that corresponds to the truth we are learning. The lesson also has several memory verses that cement that truth. This time of study I use as my personal devotions.
Prepared, I then gather the kids for family Bible time and work through the lesson and memory work. They are doing great with memorizing the catechisms and verses. Scripture memorization is foundational to equipping your children
